AquaGrammar (Preview Edition)

AquaGrammar turns a MicroNIR data file into a Classic-12 WAMACS Aquagram® — the radar chart of twelve water-related wavelengths used throughout Aquaphotomics to compare water molecular systems. It is free, it runs on Windows, and it comes with sample data, so you can build your first Aquagram® with nothing to prepare.

Why we built it

Most people meet the Aquagram® as a finished figure in somebody else’s paper. Reading one is a skill, and building one has usually meant assembling a processing chain of your own before you see a single chart.

AquaGrammar removes that first obstacle. It applies one agreed workflow — the same normalisation, the same standardisation, the same averaging of repeats, every time — so that the same file produces the same chart no matter who opens it. There is nothing to configure, which is the point: what you are learning is how to read the result, not how to tune the tool.

Four steps

  1. Open a file. A prepared MicroNIR .sam, vendor CSV or XLSX — or one of two bundled datasets, Natural Systems and Water.
  2. Select sample groups. Choose what to process; everything else is excluded.
  3. Process rows. Average groups, add them, subtract one from a baseline, or carry them straight through.
  4. Read the Aquagram®. Twelve water coordinates, one line per row — then export the chart as PNG or JPG, or the numbers behind it as XLSX or CSV.

The interface is available in English and Japanese, switchable at any time, and so is every page of its documentation.

Who it is for

Anyone who wants to produce an Aquagram® from prepared spectra and understand what they are looking at: newcomers to Aquaphotomics, those teaching it, and researchers weighing up whether the method suits their work.

More to come

This is a preview edition, and it is deliberately narrow. What comes next depends on what people tell us they need — these are the capabilities we hear asked for most:

  • Connect to or control a MicroNIR instrument
  • Save projects or sessions
  • Offers manual preprocessing, and editing of the WAMACS wavelengths
  • Support various modelling — PCA, SIMCA, PLSR, etc.
